Advancing Understanding. Supporting Those Who Served.
The Aviation Brain Health Initiative exists to advance research, elevate veteran voices, and promote greater transparency surrounding aviation-related brain injury concerns.
Naval aviators operate in one of the most demanding environments in military service. While these pilots train and perform complex flight maneuvers essential to national defense, many have reported symptoms that raise important questions about the potential neurological effects associated with certain aviation exposures.
Despite these reports, the long-term impacts of these conditions are not yet fully understood. ABHI was created to help close that gap.
Our work focuses on three core priorities:
Advancing and promoting scientific research on aviation-related neurological injury
Creating a platform for aviators to share their experiences
Increasing awareness within the medical, research, and veteran communities
By bringing together veterans, researchers, and advocates, ABHI seeks to advance a deeper understanding of aviation brain health while supporting those who have experienced its effects.
Guided by Evidence. Committed to Transparency.
Advancing understanding of aviation-related brain health requires careful, rigorous scientific inquiry. The Aviation Brain Health Initiative is committed to supporting research that meets the highest standards of scientific integrity.
ABHI promotes collaboration between researchers, advocates, and the aviation community to ensure that investigations into aviation-related neurological health are conducted with transparency, methodological rigor, and respect for evidence.
We believe that progress depends on open dialogue and responsible research. As new findings emerge, ABHI remains committed to communicating information accurately—recognizing both what is known and where further study is needed.
By maintaining a strong commitment to scientific integrity, ABHI seeks to contribute to a deeper and more reliable understanding of aviation brain health.
Where Experience Meets the Need for Answers: Our Story
The Aviation Brain Health Initiative was founded in response to a growing number of aviators who began raising questions about the long-term neurological effects associated with specific flight conditions experienced during their service.
For many pilots, the connection between these exposures and later health challenges was not immediately clear. Symptoms often appeared gradually, sometimes years after active flight duty had ended.
Protecting the Future of Aviation Health
Aviation has always advanced through a combination of experience, innovation, and research.
Understanding the neurological effects of aviation environments is an important step in continuing that progress.
By supporting research and documenting veteran experiences, ABHI aims to contribute to a more complete understanding of aviation brain health—one that supports both those who have served and those who will take flight in the future.
This work is about knowledge, transparency, and progress.
As more aviators began sharing similar experiences, it became increasingly clear that greater scientific investigation was needed.
ABHI was created to help ensure those questions are explored through rigorous research and open dialogue.
The organization brings together individuals across multiple disciplines—including veterans, medical professionals, neuroscientists, and aviation experts—who share a commitment to understanding the potential neurological impacts of aviation environments.
At the heart of this effort are the aviators themselves.
Their willingness to share their experiences is helping drive awareness, inform research, and support future generations of pilots.
Your Experience Matters
The experiences of aviators are essential to advancing understanding of aviation-related brain health.
By sharing your story, you contribute to a growing body of knowledge that can help inform research, raise awareness, and support others who may be facing similar challenges.
Every voice helps strengthen the effort to better understand the long-term impacts of aviation environments.
If you are a current or former aviator and would like to share your experience, ABHI welcomes your story.
