VADM Herman A. Shelanski, USN (Ret.)
Vice Admiral Herman A. Shelanski, USN (Ret.), is a retired Naval Flight Officer and senior military leader with extensive experience in naval aviation, carrier operations, and Department of Defense leadership. An E-2C Hawkeye aviator, he was named the 1985 Hawkeye of the Year and went on to command VAW-121, USS La Salle, USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75), and Carrier Strike Group 10.Throughout his distinguished career, VADM Shelanski held senior positions across the Navy and Department of Defense, including Senior Military Advisor to the Deputy Secretary of Defense, Director of Navy Assessments (N81), and ultimately the 40th Naval Inspector General.He holds degrees from the University of Colorado and Naval Postgraduate School and is a graduate of the Naval War College and Armed Forces Staff College. His decades of experience in naval aviation, operational leadership, and fleet readiness bring invaluable perspective to the Aviation Brain Health Initiative’s mission to better understand and protect the long-term health of military aviators.
